Ever since we started It’s Eco Time we have been searching for Organic Green Beauty Products that  we could recommend and a couple of months ago we found just what we were looking for. I began using them and found them to be excellent. I purchased the 30 day supply of all 3 products and saw results, especially around they eye area, quicker than the advertisments claimed. They smell wonderful and, for me, induce a lovely calm feeling which helps me sleep. They have also lasted much longer than the 30 days estimated. We included them in our site last month and have been delighted with the response. There have also been great reviews in several magazines. Two of which I want to share with you.

“I honestly am so impressed with this product that I would trade all the skin products I currently use as my best and most valuable necessities for a years worth of the Sustainable Youth skin care cream and serum alone!  It’s hands down the best product I have tried ever since I started seeking out on my own and/or receiving products from Meg in the category of anti-aging skin products!”
-          Jeanasina of MegsMakeup.com

“Aloe is the newest ‘it’ ingredient in skincare…Scientists at the National Center for Natural Products Research at the University of Mississippi discovered an extract in the rind of the plant that stimulates the immune system and reduces inflammation. What does that mean? It could make skin look younger by increasing its elasticity and firmness. This new discovery has led to the compound, Alasta, which is the basis of Sustainable Youth’s new Immune Performance supplement, cream, and serum.”

You can see these products and order them at www.itsecotime.com. We look forward to receiving your reviews and comments.

I am so happy to read current consumer reports which show the trend for buying bottled water is shifting. Of course some of this shift can be attributed to the economy as bottled  water is expensive.  Hopefully though some people are making this choice because filtered tap water is a greener option. Quality home water filters are a more economical and convenient solution to ensuring your family enjoys healthy water. Remember they key points I made in an earlier blog:

• There are no government standards that require bottled water to be purer or safer than tap water.

• We have to recycle the plastic bottles at enormous expense

• Bottled water is more expensive than tap water

Take a look at our quality range of water filters and water saving shower heads, over time these will prove to be a very cost effective choice.

Those of you who follow our Blog regularly, or receive our newsletters, will know that Peter and I have been enthusiastically waiting for solar panels to be installed in our home in Arizona. We thought the idea of leasing the panels made this a very affordable option which became even more attractive when we learnt that if we didn’t use all the energy we generated we ended up with a credit on our bill. We have now learnt that installation has had to be delayed again. This is because of the credit crunch. The companies leasing the panels are finding that their financing is being restricted and the proposed stimulus funds are still not available. So sadly we are not as energy efficient as we’d hoped to be at this moment in time.

As the weather continues to improve and summer is just around the corner I thought I’d share some recipes for home made beauty products that will get your skin in tip top condition before you break out the shorts and Ts!

The Ultimate Body Scrub (makes multiple applications)

1 cup course sea salt

1/2 cup baby oil

Stir the ingredients together in a bowl and put into a screw top jar. Leave for 24 hours.

Stir the mixture and apply to any areas you wish to exfoliate. Massage into the skin for a few minutes then shower off.

Most Effective Dry Skin Treatment (makes 1 application)

2 Tablespoons real mayonnaise

1 Teaspoon baby oil

Combine both ingredients. Smooth onto face, neck, rough elbows or knees (in fact any areas you feel might benefit from it). Leave for 20 minutes then rise off  thoroughly with tepid water.

Ever since we formed It’s Eco Time we have been searching for natural, green beauty products. At last we have identified a site with products we feel we can recommend. Using only organic, natural green ingredients and practices, these products help restore, renew and preserve the freshness, vitality and condition of youthful looking skin. Developed using technologies that adhere to strict ethics the products contain no genetically modified ingredients, no animal derivitives and no animal testing is used in their production. They have been clinically proven to help improve skin elasticity and firmness in only 8 weeks however, I have been using them for a much shorter time and can already see significant improvement especially around the eye area. An additional benefit that I have found is the relaxing scent of these products. Check these 3 products out at http://itsecotime.com/Organic-beauty-products

Recently I have read lots of articles with quirky tips on how to save energy, reduce costs etc. While they are all very commendable I’m sure, at It’s Eco Time we believe that, to make a sustainable difference and to green up your lifestyle on a permanent basis, the changes you make need to be embedded into your home environment. For instance I read a recommendation from someone who said that to reduce the water consumption in her shower she put the radio on and only let the water flow for the duration of one song. I’m sure this works but how to you get your husband and kids to sign up for this? Isn’t it better to invest a small amount of money in a water saving showerhead and forget about the issue? Likewise, making a stand and turning the heat way down, then suggesting everyone wears an extra sweater can become confrontational within the family. Purchasing a programmable thermostat means you can programme your heat or air, not only for different times of the day but for different days of the week. The advantage of this is that once installed you can forget the issue and still be saving money on your fuel bills. At It’s Eco Time we believe there should be no “pain” involved it leading a healthy green lifestyle - only gain.

Using waterless cookware  really is the most energy efficient, healthiest way to cook. The food cooks in its natural juices, it tastes terrific and it retains approximately 98% of its vitamins and minerals, compared to only 58% when using conventional cookware. Cooking with waterless cookware is easy once you understand the fact that you simply don’t use as high a temperature as with regular cookware, and it seems to take less time than conventional cooking. Since the heat is so evenly distributed there’s less chance of burning or sticking, which makes the pots easier to clean. And of course you don’t have to use oil to prevent sticking. A Special Steam-Release Valve Lid is used to keep water from escaping. The lid forms a seal with the pot, and locks in the natural moisture that normally escapes from the food during the cooking process. Once the natural juices have created a sufficient amount of steam, a whistle sound is heard coming from the steam valve. At that time the heat is turned off or down, depending on the foods you’re preparing. This, of course, saves much energy, and the foods cook at a more constant temperature, because of the cookware’s heat retention capabilities and the steam heat inside the pot.

You begin by rinsing your prepared foods in cold water and drain. Enough water clings to the food to combine with the natural juices to cook the food in its own steam. For safety, and until you get used to this new method, you should add 1/8″ of water to the bottom of the pan. Seasoning should only  be added at the end of cooking. During cooking - Don’t Peek! When the cover is removed during the cooking period, heat and steam are allowed to escape. This lengthens the cooking time and dries out the food.Remember that the cooking time depends on the texture you prefer your vegetables to be at meal time. Actual cooking time will vary depending on this fact, as well as on the quantity and size being cooked. The shorter the cooking time, of course, the crisper the vegetable. To learn more about the cookware and see a range of the products visit www.itsecotime.com
